Czech Republic offers medical experts to Southeast Asia

The Czech Republic will offer three microbiology experts and two epidemiologists at a European conference to help Southeast Asia in the wake of the destructive tsunamis, Czech Deputy Health Minister Michael Vit said Tuesday.

The World Health Organization has said that specialists from various sectors are necessary in the area. "We are offering our experts who will be able to depart," Vit said.

Non-Governmental Organizations have also contacted the Health Ministry with aid offers, including treating some of the victims in the Czech Republic. The Ministry wants to coordinate the aid itprovides with other EU countries.

Volunteers are to set up a mobile paediatric clinic with a teamof about 20 people from Liberec and north Bohemia, including doctors, nurses, rescuers and others. The group will leave on Jan.10 and doctors will be rotated each month, while the nurses will stay there for three months.

Vit said that the groups have to have sufficient sources of supplies to work in the area. Enditem
