Prime ministers of the three Nordic countries are scheduled to make a
joint inspection tour of tsunami-hit Thailand from Jan. 16, the Finnish
government said Tuesday.
Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen and his Swedish and Norwegian
counterparts, Goran Persson and Kjell Magne Bondevik, will stay for four days in
Thailand. They will meet Thai leaders to thank the local authorities and people
for the help and rescue efforts offered to Nordic tourists during the disaster.
Meanwhile, the three prime ministers will also discuss with Thai leaders
humanitarian assistance to tsunami-hit areas and local rehabilitation efforts.
They will also inspect the tsunami-hit areas and visit rescue and relief
workers from Nordic countries.
Thailand is one of the Asian countries hit by the Dec. 26 earthquake and
tsunami that killed about 150,000 people in the region.
