Norway helps to rebuild schools in Sri Lanka
7/1/2005 11:22
The Norwegian Refugee Council has taken on the job of rebuilding all the 200
schools in Sri Lanka that were destroyed by the tidal wave on December 26th,
Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reported on Thursday. Both the Sri Lankan
authorities and the Tamil guerillas which control the northern part of the
country have accepted the offer from the Norwegian Refugee
Council. Meanwhile, a freight aircraft left Airport Trondheim of Norway on
Thursday, loaded with 20 cross-country trucks which will be used to transport
emergency supplies in Indonesia. Another 40 former military trucks will be
sent by ship. Major parts of the road network in Indonesia were destroyed by
the tidal wave, making it almost impossible to distribute relief supplies to the
victims of the floodwaters.
