The 2005 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on Thursday announced
its collaboration with the fundraising effort of the American Red Cross
International Response Fund to help victims in the recent tsunami in
Asia. Starting Thursday, participants at the 2005 International CES which
runs January 6-9 in Las Vegas, will be able to make on-site contributions to the
Red Cross tsunami relief effort, according to the CES host Consumer Electronics
Association (CEA). The 2005 International CES will designate cash registers
in the registration areas that allow attendees to contribute to the Red Cross in
their disaster relief efforts. Voluntary donations can be made in the
registration areas located in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center
and the exhibitor registration area in the Central Plaza. Registration areas
will be accepting donations in the form of cash, credit cards or checks made
payable to the American Red Cross. In addition to the contributions pledged
during the show, the CEA will also make a significant donation to the American
Red Cross. The death toll from last week's tsunami disaster that hit 11 South
and Southeast Asian countries was expected to hit 150,000, triggering worldwide
efforts to raise fund for the victims. "Just as the technologies created by
the companies we represent connect citizens around the world, we feel connected
to those who have suffered from this horrible tragedy," said the CEA President
Gary Shapiro. "We are proud to make a contribution to the American Red Cross
to help support their international relief efforts," he said. More than
120,000 people from about 110 countries are attending the 2005 International
CES, the world's largest showcase of the latest digital technology and products.
