The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) on Monday decided to donate 3
million dollars to South Asian earthquake and tsunami victims.
"As a continuation of its longstanding humanitarian actions with UNICEF, WHO
and UNHCR, the FIVB has decided to make a donation of 3 million dollars to the
United Nations to assist in the disaster relief efforts," FIVA president Ruben
Acosta said in a statement reaching here on Tuesday.
"We are going to contribute to rebuilding schools and playing fields in the
affected regions, which are home to more than 8 million volleyball players."
"We will also provide structured sports programmes to children who have lost
family members and who have been traumatised by thiscatastrophe, in the hope
that this will in some modest way help restore their confidence in the future
and bring some enjoyment back into their lives."
