Two C-130 Hercules cargo planes of the Spanish Army arrived Thursday in
Indonesia with humanitarian aid as part of the first contingent of the mission
dubbed " Solidary Response," Spanish military sources said. The two C-130s,
carrying assistance goods and a water treatment plant, landed in the capital of
Riau province in central Sumatra, reports said. The Solidary Response plans
to send nearly 600 personnel to the tsunami-hit areas to help the affected
population during a period of six to eight weeks. The military contingent
also comprises the vessel Galicia, which will set sail Saturday from Alicante
and arrive in Indonesia in early February, with 257 soldiers, sanitary
specialists and engineers.
