Pakistan mulls tsunami warning system
28/1/2005 15:20
An early tsunami warning system will be set up in Pakistan, local media
reported on Friday. The Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) quoted Anjum Bari,
a chief meteorologist, as saying that he had sent a proposal to the government
on the system. An early warning system for floods has already been
functioning in the country, said the APP report. In 1945, an earthquake of
8.3 magnitude hit Pasni, near the current Pakistan-Indian border, which
triggered a tsunami that killed some 4,000 people, said the report.
