473 foreigners were confirmed killed by tsunami in Thailand
29/12/2004 17:22

Thailand Wednesday said a total of 473 foreigners were confirmed killed by deadly tsunamis at the nation's southern tourist resorts on Sunday.
The figure breaks down to Sweden with 54 victims, Germany with 49 and Britain with 43, according to a list issued by the Thai Interior Ministry's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.
There were 20 Americans listed dead and 13 Canadians.
Thirty-six nationalities appeared on the list, from Australia with 12 to Vietnam with a single death.
However, the figure appeared sure to rise further. Though 12 French victims were on the list, France's foreign minister said earlier Wednesday that his government already knew of 19 French tourists killed in Thailand.
The list included 84 corpses identified as tourists, but with no nationality. Thousands of tourists remain missing throughout the southern resort areas around Phuket and other nearby islands.
