The death toll in India from a massive tsunami that struck the Indian Ocean coasts last Sunday has reached 8,955, the government said Saturday.

The Information Office of the Ministry of Home Affairs also said 3,872 more people were missing in the disaster. The combined dead and missing reached 12,827 people.
