Seven Singaporeans, instead of 7 as reported earlier, have been confirmed
dead in the tsunami disaster.
According to the latest figure released by the Foreign Ministryon Tuesday
night, another 15 people are missing, which is three more than the day before,
while the number of the uncontactable isdown to 24.
The ministry said that work concerning the United Nations Regional
Coordination Center in Singapore, a one-stop center for aid coming into the
region, is in progress with the situation and logistics planning center already
in place.
Local media reports said on Tuesday that 32 shipping containersfilled with
relief supplies including medicine, clothing, food andmineral water, have left
Singapore for disaster-hit areas.
Both the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) and shipping lines are handling
these emergency supplies free of charge in support ofthe relief effort.
As requests for transportation of relief supplies have been increasing, more
containers are expected to leave Singapore in thecoming days, reports said.
Singapore's National Volunteer and Philanthropy Center launchedon Tuesday a
24-hour hotline for disaster-relief volunteers and will match them according to
the needs of various organizations.
