Some 132,172 people are still listed missing in Aceh province after the
tsunami disaster crashed into the province on Dec. 26 which leveled vast
densely-populated areas, the Aceh provincial media reported on Saturday.
The number of missing people in the northern tip of Sumatra island could
increase in the near future, said provincial Secretary Thanthawi Ishak.
"The number of missing people in Aceh Jaya district and Aceh Barat district
have not counted," he was quoted by the Serambi Indonesia daily as saying.
The provincial official also said that some 1,878 Acehnese were seriously
injured.
The catastrophe, killed more than 110,000 people, destroyed buildings in a
large areas by more than one kilometer from the beach in the province.
There are still many bodies under the debris, which still couldnot be reached
by rescue teams, due to lack of heavy equipment and personnel involving in the
cleaning work.
