The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs said on Monday that the death toll
in the Dec. 26 earthquake and tsunami disasters in Aceh and North Sumatra has
reached 115,229.
The number of people who perished in the calamity in Krueng Mane has reached
117, in Bireun 594, in East Aceh 894, in North Aceh 2,386, in Banda Aceh 20,141,
in Lhokseumawe 189, in Pidie 2,686, in Sabang 12, in Nagan Raya 1,338, in Aceh
Jaya 19,661, in Calang 5,000, in Meulaboh 28,251, in Aceh Besar 17,564, in
Simeulue eight, in Pulau Aceh 4,000, in South Aceh six, in West Aceh 11,982, in
Southwest Aceh six, in Central Aceh 131, and in Gayo Luwes four.
The number of deaths in the tsunami in North Sumatra has reached 261,
including 227 in Nias, eight in Pantai Cermin, one in Central Tapanuli, eight in
Deli Serdang, four in Sergai, two in Madina and 11 at the Adam Malik hospital in
Medan, the ministry's disaster control command center stated.
The Health Ministry meanwhile has recorded the death toll in the two
provinces at only 96,000, the missing at 12,000, out-patients 3,461 and
in-patients 1,201.
The number of refugees from the two provinces meanwhile has been recorded at
609,942. Some of the victims are still being treated at Jakarta hospitals.
