Norway said Tuesday the total number of its citizens killed or missing in
last month's Asian tsunami disaster was 88, down from earlier estimates of 92.
Eight Norwegian citizens have so far been confirmed dead while 80 others
remained missing, according to the National Criminal Investigation Service,
Kripos, which previously said 15 Norwegianshad died and 77 disappeared in the
tsunami.
A Kripos spokesman said there are some friends and family members who
reported Norwegians dead or missing, but they have notbeen officially
identified. Several Norwegians who had been thought missing have also surfaced.
In the days following the disaster, Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne
Bondevik suggested that more than 1,000 Norwegians mayhave disappeared. But the
toll turned out to be much lower, as more than two thirds of the people presumed
missing contacted authorities to say they were safe. Enditem
