Cathay Pacific Chief Executive Philip Chen Tuesday presented to the Hong Kong
Red Cross a check for 7 million Hong Kong dollars (897,435 US dollars) raised
from staff and company donations to help the victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami
rebuild their lives.
Since the company kicked off the fundraising effort for the Cathay Pacific
Southeast Asia Disaster Relief Fund on Dec. 29 last year, the relief fund has
raised more than 7 million HK dollars atthe moment.
Inflight, all donations through March for the UNICEF "Change for Good"
program will go to help disaster victims. Donations in January totaled about 1.7
million HK dollars, double that normally collected.
Cathay Pacific Chief Executive Philip Chen said Tuesday: "on behalf of Cathay
Pacific, I would like to thank all staff, our customers, suppliers and the Hong
Kong travel industry for their commitment and contributions to relief efforts in
support of our friends in South Asia. Hong Kong's community spirit shone through
once again, and as the Hong Kong airline, we were proud to be a part of it."
