Iraqi government said Saturday that Baghdad's international airport will be
closed Jan. 29 and 30 for election security. Interior Minister Falah Hassan
al-Naqib predicted escalation of violence before Jan. 30 elections but said
security measures should be adequate. He told a news conference that extended
nighttime curfews would also be in place around Iraq over the election
period. Earlier this month, Iraq announced it would close land borders on
Jan. 29-31 and restrict movement inside the country.
