A powerful explosion outside a Shiite mosque in southern Baghdad killed at least 15 people on Friday, police said.

The blast occurred in Baghdad's Dora neighborhood near the al-Khadimain mosque as worshippers marked Ashura, a holy Shiite religious ceremony.

A policeman told Xinhua that the explosion was apparently the work of a suicide bomber.
