15/1/2005 10:53

The Swedish government has decided to recruit and train electoral observers to monitor the part of the Iraqi election that will be held for Iraqi citizens in Sweden, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs said on Friday.
A minimum of 14 and up to 50 observers will perform this task.
"The Iraqi election constitutes the beginning of a political process that will hopefully lead to democracy being firmly established in Iraq," said Minister for International Development Cooperation Carin Jomtin.
"It is important that Iraqis in Sweden are able to take part in the election and that it is conducted in a manner that strengthens credibility for the democratic process," the Minister said.
The Iraqi parliamentary election is planned to take place on Jan. 30. Voter registration in Sweden is planned for Jan. 17-23. The elections will be held on Jan. 28-30. They will possibly vote in Goteborg and Stockholm.
There are approximately 100,000 Iraqis living in Sweden. Sweden is one of just 14 countries in the world outside of Iraq where Iraqis can vote in the election.
