Iraqis in UAE start voting

Iraqis living in the United Arab Emirates(UAE) started voting on Friday in
the UAE capital Abu Dhabi and Dubai, one of seven emirates in the country, with
the process lasting until Sunday. Mike Burke, head of the International
Organization for Migration (IOM)'s Iraq out-of-country voting programme in the
UAE, earlier told the press that more than 12,581 of about 60,000 to 65,000
eligible Iraqi voters had registered to vote in the UAE. The UAE is one of 14
countries where the IOM is organizing a vote in parallel with US-backed
elections to the 275-member transitional National Assembly taking place in Iraq
on Jan. 30. Meanwhile, other than the UAE, out-of-country voting also take
place in Australia, Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Iran, Jordan, the
Netherlands, Sweden, Syria, Turkey and the United States.
