The final results of Sunday's Iraqi parliamentary elections are estimated to
come out within 10 days,the Independent Election Commission of Iraq (IECI) said
Monday.
A total of 200 employees were counting the ballots around the clock, an IECI
official told a news briefing.
The polling started at 7 a.m. (0400 GMT) and closed at 5 p.m.(1400 GMT)
throughout Iraq on Sunday, and the counting process was underway.
A 275-seat national assembly will be formed by proportional representation of
votes with a one-year mandate. It will choose a transitional government and
draft a permanent constitution put for a national referendum by Oct. 15.
A new government and parliament will then be elected through another ballot
by the end of this year under the guidance of the constitution.
