Five US Soldiers were killed and two others injured in a car accident in north Baghdad on Monday night, the military said in a statement on Tuesday.

The accident occurred near the town of Khan Bani Saad and the soldiers were from the Army's 1st Infantry Division, the statement said.

The military gave no details about the accident but said it was under investigation.

The latest figures from the Pentagon show more than 1,300 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the US-led invasion in March 2003.
