Spain will work with the new Iraqi government and is considering the
possibility of bringing Iraqi police and civil servants to Spain for training, a
top government official said Wednesday.
Addressing the Foreign Affairs Commission of Congress, Foreign Minister
Miguel Moratinos said the intention of the Spanish government is to help the
Iraqis to consolidate a state ruled by law.
The minister reminded that Spain has been one of the most important
contributors with technical assistance for Sunday's elections in Iraq.
Moratinos praised the Iraqis for their participation in the elections. "The
high and heroic participation of the Iraqis in theelections allows a rapid
transfer of sovereignty to the new Iraqi government, which will be responsible
for the security of the country," he said.
