The Globes turns to a vane of the Oscar in recent years. Thus the big winners in Oscar are expected to be selected from The Aviator, Sideways and Million Dollar Baby, which have taken top Golden Globe Awards.

"Sideways," the director Alexander Payne's tale of an ornery oenophile traveling through California wine country with his best friend, won best picture in the musical or comedy category. Mr. Payne won the Globe for best screenplay with his writing partner, Jim Taylor.

"Million Dollar Baby," is a story of a crusty boxing trainer and the waitress he trains to be a champion fighter. Clint Eastwood won best director for it.
