Lebanese President Emil Lahoud has reappointed pro-Syrian Omar Karami to be the country's new premier, 10 days after Karami resigned because of massive protests and pressure.

The decision was made after the majority of Lebanese lawmakers nominated Karami to head the new government on Wednesday.

After being entitled by the president, Karami said he will start consultations with the opposition for the formation of the government on Monday, which he says is the only way to save the country from destruction.

He added that if the opposition rejects his suggestion, he will reconsider whether to accept the mission to form a cabinet.

Later Thursday, the opposition rejected the suggestion to form a coalition government.

The opposition leader Walid Jumblatt called for international supervision in the next parliamentary elections as well as an international investigation into the killing of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
