Jordan on Monday welcomed Syria'sdecision to withdraw troops from Lebanon.
Government spokeswoman Asma Khader told a press conference thatSyrian
President Bashar al-Assad's statement on the implementationof the Taif Accord
and upholding of UN Security Council Resolution1559, is timely and a positive
response to the internationalcommunity.
Khader said Jordan hopes all UN resolutions concerning theMiddle East region
will be implemented as soon as possible. Assad, following Monday's
Syrian-Lebanese summit, said thatSyrian troops in Lebanon will withdraw to the
eastern Bekaa Valleyby the end of March, and the two sides would then decide
thetimetable of a final withdrawal.
