EU 3, Russia demand Syria leave Lebanon

France, Germany, Russia and Spain made a joint appeal on Friday for Syria to withdraw its forces from Lebanon.

The communiqu¨¦was issued after French President Jacques Chirac, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Zapatero held an informal meeting in Pairs.

The leaders urge Lebanon to form a new government on behalf of Lebanese people and hope international community to send observers to monitor the parliamentary elections which is due to be held in May.

The communiqu¨¦also urge Syria to withdraw all its troops and intelligent service from Lebanon.

Earlier, Lebanese President Emil Lahoud reappointed pro-Syrian Omar Karami to be the country's new premier to head the new government. Enditem
