Russian said on Thursday it hoped the Organization for Security and
Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) will behave responsibly in resolving the crisis in
Kyrgyzstan.
"We expect that the OSCE will behave responsibly, because a lot depends on
what they say and how they put it," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told
Russian Interfax. He added clear-cut criteria for appointing the OSCE mission
heads should be worked out.
"We reiterate that their statements should be more careful," Lavrov was
quoted by Itar-Tass as saying.
Lavrov also said Russia is seriously concerned about the situation in
Kyrgyzstan and is closely watching events there. He urged all sides involved to
settle the conflict by peaceful means.
Kyrgyzstan tumbled deeper into crisis on Thursday. President Askar Akayev and
his family reportedly fled the country to Kazakhstan after opposition protesters
seized control of main government buildings and the national television station
in the capital Bishkek.
OSCE envoy to Kyrgyzstan Alojz Peterle, who arrived in the capital Bishkek on
Thursday, said, "It would be good to create a provisional government of national
unity so that there is time to move away from the streets and reach a
provisional solution."
"If there is a political will to reach an agreement on so called government
of national unity, then, of course, unity means different political lines, not
just one," Peterle said.
