The new Kyrgyz Parliament has relieved former vice president, Feliks Kulov,
of his post as security chief at his own request.
Previously, Kulov had told the parliament there was no need for a chief
security coordinator in Kyrgyzstan now that the situation has stabilized and a
temporary government has been formed.
Hours before announcing his resignation, Kulov promised personal security to
ousted president, Askar Akayev, and urged him to return to the country to resign
officially.
Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan's new parliamentary speaker, Omurbek Tekebayev, says
the voluntary resignation of Askar Akayev as president is the best solution to
the crisis in the country.
In another development, President Askar Akayev has expressed his readiness to
resign on condition that his security is guaranteed, while the acting Kyrgyz
Foreign Minister said her country does not plan to demand the extradition of
Akayev.
