25/3/2005 11:09

Amid drastic political changes in Kyrgyzstan, Russian military is now taking precautious measures to protect its troops based in Kyrgyzstan, Interfax news agency Thursday reported.

General Chief of the Russian Armed Forces Yury Baluyevsky told the press on Thursday that the current crisis situation in Kyrgyzstan requires Russia to adopt special measures to guarantee the safety of the Russian troops now based in Kyrgyzstan's Kant military base, but no sign has been shown yet that there is going to be targeted actions against Russian militaries. "We will adopt relevant security measures according to the situation," Baluyevsky said.

According to the general chief, being a member of the CIS Collective Security Pact Organization, Kyrgyzstan's security problem will not only affect Russia, but also its neighboring countries as well. Russia hopes the country will try to keep calm and stable during the current political turmoil, Baluyevsky noted.
