The governments of Ukraine and Georgia have offered to act as mediators in talks between Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev and opposition representatives to resolve the crisis in the country.

At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin has told Kyrgyzstan's acting President Kurmanbek Bakiyev that Moscow is ready to consider assisting the interim government to stabilize the situation in Kyrgyzstan.

US State Department deputy spokesman Adam Ereli said Washington would provide assistance to Kyrgyzstan during the country's transitional period.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao called on Kyrgyzstan to restore social order as soon as possible, and pledged that China will continue to develop sound relations with its neighbor in Central Asia.

Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana and the French Foreign Ministry also called for a quick return to stability in Kyrgyzstan.
