Nine Australian military personnel were killed and two others seriously
injured when the helicopter carrying them crashed on the quake-stricken island
of Nias in Indonesia on Saturday.
The Navy's Sea King helicopter was flying an aid mission to thearea, just
hours after Australia's military support to the island started, the Australian
Broadcasting Corporation radio reported Sunday.
The injured were taken to Australia's navy ship HMAS Kanimbla for treatment.
More than 1,300 people have been killed in Nias, off Indonesia's Sumatra
island, when the quake measuring 8.7 on the Richter scale struck last Monday.
