A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale, hit Sumatra, Indonesia, at 4:38 a.m. ( Hong Kong time) Saturday, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.
The epicenter of the quake was determined to be near the seas west of Sumatra, Indonesia (0.4 north latitude, 98.1 east longitude), about 360 kilometers south of Medan.
