Bird flu was detected in another two villages in east Romania on Wednesday,
raising the number of affected villages in the country to 25.
The Romanian Agriculture Ministry said on the day that the killer virus was
found in the samples collected in the villages of Ciresu and Dudesti in the
eastern county of Braila.
The finding prompted Romanian health departments to put the two villages
under quarantine and cull all poultry there.
The Romanian and Bulgarian governments have agreed on bird flu prevention
measures amid fears that cases of human infection in neighboring Turkey will
also occur in their countries.
Romanian agriculture ministry said it had intensified surveillance on birds
and domestic animals around affected areas and was monitoring people entering
and leaving the country.
Bird flu has killed three people in east Turkey and infected another dozen.
