China's eighth bird flu patient is recovering, a Changsha hospital reported. The country has reported nine cases of bird flu this winter, including six deaths.
The six-year-old patient in central China's Hunan Province now can walk by himself and no longer needs oxygen apparatus as he is breathing with no difficulty, said the Hunan Provincial Children's Hospital. The boy, surnamed Ouyang, showed symptoms on December 24 and was confirmed on January 9 to have been infected with H5N1 bird flu. He initially suffered serious lung damage.
