Indonesian gov't decides to take more actions on bird flu

An Indonesian government team will eventually have to take action in handling bird flu which recently killed a nine-year old boy in South Jakarta as the 51st victim on last Friday, according to a press release by the National Committee for the Handling of Bird Flue and Influenza Pandemy yesterday.

The team, consisting of elements from the Health Ministry, Bird Flu Management Campaign Unit of the Agriculture Ministry, Livestock, Fishery and Marine offices and Jakarta representative health office, will cooperate in finding ways to stop the spread of the H5N1 virus and take more steps to overcome the pandemic, the press release said.

This team also has the task to carry out a field research if the case also infects other human beings.

Meanwhile, in order to stop the spread of bird flu, the National Committee for the Handling of Bird Flu and Influenza Pandemy decided to take more steps which will be socialized to each Indonesian citizens in hope of being able to prevent the spread of H5N1 virus, said the press release.

On Monday, the Health Ministry confirmed that a 9-year-old boy, a resident of Pondok Pinang in South Jakarta, was infected with the H5N1 virus. The boy was reported to have touched a sick chicken in his neighborhood.
