The Afghan government on Thursday confirmed the reemergence of the deadly
bird influenza in the war-ravaged country.
So far two cases of bird flu have been found in Nangar and Kunar provinces in
east Afghanistan, spokesman of the Health Ministry Abdullah Fahim told Xinhua.
Identifying the virus as H5N1 type, the official termed it as deadly and said
only in birds it had been found and not in humans.
Over a dozen cases of bird flu had been detected in several provinces of
Afghanistan including the capital Kabul early 2006 but all in birds.
Though, the authorities have cautioned customers of using birds, the poultry
chicken and eggs are available in bulk in local markets.
