Romania's Agriculture Ministry announced on Monday that four dead hens have
been confirmed as being infected with the H5 strain of bird flu in the country's
delta region.
According to officials, the hens came from two small farms in the village of
Caraorman, which is unreachable by road.
Authorities will begin culling the 2,000 domestic birds in the village later
on Monday, a ministry press release said.
Cases of bird flu were first discovered in Danube Delta villages of Ceamurlia
de Jos and Maliuc last month in Romania, after which the local government put up
a quarantine on the villages and all birds there were killed.
