China and Russia may hold more joint military exercises in the future,
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said in eastern China
yesterday. Ivanov's remarks came at the closing ceremony of the first war
games between the two countries. The joint military exercises began a week ago
in Russia's Vladivostok before moving to China's Shandong Peninsula. Ivanov
praised the cooperation between the Russian and Chinese navies, air forces,
armies and paratroopers. He said the 10,000 troops involved displayed a high
level of skill. "Only when we are closely united can we meet new challenges
and threats," he said. In the final exercise, paratroopers conducted a mock
invasion. During the drill, Sino-Russian troops charged deep into enemy
territory. "The Russian and Chinese troops effectively coordinated their
actions, because they clearly understood their joint mission," Ivanov
said. (Xinhua)
