Chinese forced laborers lose in Tokyo
15/3/2007 9:34

Chinese plaintiffs and their supporters protest in front of the Tokyo High
Court yesterday after it overturned a landmark ruling by a district court that
had ordered the Japanese government and Niigata-based Rinko Corp to compensate
Chinese who were forced into labor during World War II. The high court held that
the 20-year limitation on the right to compensation had expired. The lower court
ruled in 2004 that the Japanese government and the harbor transport company must
give eight million yen (US$68,000) to each of the 11 plaintiffs. -
