Workers yesterday started construction on the world's biggest
power-transmission expressway.
When completed, the connection - which will bring in hydro-generated power
from 2,000 kilometers away in southwest China - will meet one fifth of the
city's electricity needs and curb sulfur emissions, Shanghai Daily reported.
The ultra-high voltage direct current (HVDC) power transmission project, the
longest and the biggest in the world in terms of transmission capacity, will go
online in 2011.
