The death toll rose to 11,921 persons in the major earthquake in southwestern
Sichuan Province by 2:00 p.m. today, according to the headquarters of disaster
relief headed by Premier Wen Jiabao.
As of this noon, the government had allocated 360 million yuan (52.17 million
U.S. dollars) for disaster relief after a massive quake rocked China's southwest
Sichuan Province yesterday.
Vice Minister of Civil Affairs Luo Pingfei told reporters that 60,600 tents
have been sent to the quake-hit regions.
Luo said the quake had been felt by most provinces and regions, except for
Jilin, Helongjiang and Xinjiang.
