President Hu Jintao met with Cambodia's new King Norodom Sihamoni in Beijing yesterday and promised China's continued support for Cambodia.
Hu congratulated Sihamoni on his succession to the throne, and said he wished Cambodia new success under his leadership.
"The Chinese government and people highly treasure their profound traditional friendship with the Cambodian royal house and people," Hu said. "China pays high tribute to the outstanding contributions that former Cambodian King Norodom Sihanouk has made to China-Cambodia relations."
Cambodia's Throne Council chose Prince Norodom Sihamoni as the new king of Cambodia last Thursday, a week after his father, Norodom Sihanouk, abdicated.
King Sihamoni described China as a "great friend," , noting that China has offered his country support and assistance.
