9/4/2003 14:24

Spending on real estate, domestic education and long-term insurance will become the three top considerations for most Shanghai residents in the coming one or two years, according to a survey by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.

Local residents are paying more attention to improving their living conditions, educational levels and maintaining stability after their fundamental daily expenses are taken care of.

Shanghainese pay most attention to improving their living conditions, with average monthly living costs the second largest expenditure after food, according to the survey.

Housing consumption is expected to become the largest household expenditure in the city in the next couple of years.

Spending by the city's well-educated group exceeded average housing spending in Shanghai, according to the survey.
