China to pilot housing market evaluation system
12/6/2003 14:29
The Ministry of Construction will pilot test a housing market evaluation
system in 13 key cities to monitor and regulate the property development there,
today's China Real Estate News reported.
Cities chosen include Shanghai,
Tianjin, Chongqing, Harbin, Dalian, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Xi'an, Zhengzhou,
Changsha, Nanchang, Xiamen and Shenzhen, according to the report, which cites
construction officials.
The system involves timely, accurate and detailed
data collection in the local housing markets, evaluates the situation there
based on an analysis of the data and forecasts market trends, the report
said.
Results of the evaluations will be published to guide rational
investment in the real estate sector and ensure healthy development.
The
system was proposed after research late last year by a special task force of the
construction ministry.
After thorough research in some cities such as
Hangzhou and Shenyang, the group concluded China's real estate market is healthy
in general, with the exception of some areas where investment is overheated and
housing prices are unreasonably high.
Over-development has been the focus
of disputes over China's housing sector.
