Residence house suppliers are joining the city's efforts in energy saving
as a total of one million squremeters of energy-efficient residence are to be
built in Shanghai's Pudong and Minhang area this year.
By the end of
June, 668,300 square meters residence out of the one million blue prints have
passed technique exam.
These residence houses are designed according to
the energy-saving designing standard to keep the house warm in winter and cool
in summer. Heat preservation materials are applied in construction, and low
power consuming and energy-efficient heating and cooling equipments are
installed.
As a result , the average power consumption of such a house
is half of that in a common one, yet its construction cost is no more than ten
percent higher than average.
Starting from 2005, all newly built
residence shall meet the power-saving criteria, including construction materials
and heating and cooling facilities.
Shanghai was hit by a
record-breaking heat wave in this summer, overstretching its power grid and
forced hundreds of city's factories to halt or reschedule production. The city's
government is stepping up efforts to reduce energy consumption and increase
supply to keep with the rapidly ascending energy demand.
