City to establish housing emergency system

Shanghai plans to establish a uniform housing emergency reacting system
next year to help local residents out of difficulties, said Cai Yutian, director
with the Shanghai Housing and Land Resources Bureau, the Shanghai Morning Post
reported today. The system will link the local housing emergency maintenance
services with a citywide uniform service hotline, so that all the residents can
dial the hotline to ask for help. For example, if residents find their
water-pipes broken, electricity circuit broken off or roof leaking, they can
dial the hotline to ask for help from the system, and the maintenance staff will
come within two hours. The system can help residents deal with emergencies as
soon as possible, said an industry analyst. The Shanghai Housing and Land
Resources Bureau plans to spend three years renovating old residential
properties by investing 1.5 billion yuan (US$180 million). The city has
completed this year's tasks of renovating five million square meters of old
residential properties, finding property mangers for 1.25 million square meters
of residential quarters and maintaining 100 old elevators. Shanghai will
enhance renovating old properties next year, aiming to find property managers
for 3.08 million square meters of residential quarters by the end of next
year.
