City expands low-rent housing program
19/3/2004 14:49

More Shanghai people will benefit from the low-rent housing program, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

The government sponsored low-rent housing will consist of apartments valued at about 100,000 yuan in the 10 downtown districts, and those worth about 80,000 yuan in the other nine suburban districts and counties.

Under the new rule, local families with a housing space lower than 7 square meters per-capita will be entitled to the welfare program.
People with excellent work records and relatives of soldiers who were crippled or killed in service, if the family per-capita living space is under 7 sq meters and the per-capita income is lower than 570 yuan (US$69) a month, are priorities for the housing.
