Shanghai's housing prices have increased faster over the last two months,
with an average price of 8,201 yuan (US$988) per square meter last month, up 8
percent from the previous month, the Shanghai Morning Post reported
today.
Prices of properties between the city's mid and inner ring roads
recorded the biggest increase of over 6 percent in September.
With housing
inside the Inner Ring Road too expensive for buyers, properties between the
city's mid and inner ring roads are considered the top choices, said an industry
analyst. However, because of the strong demand, the average price of such
properties has risen to nearly 10,000 yuan per square meter.
Prospective home
buyers were taking a wait-and-see attitude in June and July this year, but as of
August, the local real estate market began to flourish, with property prices on
the rise, the analyst pointed out, adding that with the peak season for property
sales expected to come by the year end, local housing prices will continue to
increase if there are no new policies from the government.
