Construction of one-million-square-meters of mid and low-priced residential properties will start in Songjiang District this week, specifically for people relocating due to local urban construction, according to the Shanghai Urban Construction Investment Development Corporation yesterday.
The Shanghai municipal government has set aside two plots of land along the Gulou Road of Sijing Town in Songjiang District with a total area of more than 1,400 mu (93.3 hectares) for residents relocating due to key local urban construction projects.
During its first phase of construction, 89 housing buildings are planned, with a total floor space of 340,000 square meters. After completion in March 2006, the 89 buildings, accessible to the planned Rail Line No.4, are expected to accommodate more than 3,500 households.
