Anting New Town, patterned after traditional German cities, is becoming a model for residences due to its environmental friendly layout, reported today's Shanghai Morning Post.
A utility Tunnel, which contains all power, telecom, gas and drain pipes, is the most advanced in city construction.  The Town sponsor invested 140 million yuan (US$ 17m) to establish the tunnel which is 5.8 kilometer in length and 2.4 meter in height and width.  Examine and repair entries and inspection, ventilation and lighting systems are all set into the tunnel.
A constant inside temperature of between 18-28 degrees centigrade is maintained in the Town. As well, the water cycle system chosen for the town saves 50 percent on energy costs.
The living area of the construction workers is isolated from the construction site to avoid pollution.  The management department of the Town is striving to create a no-infection community by adhering to the standards of environmental fitness for human residence published by WHO.
