Guangdong call transfer service approved

Guangdong Telecom, a South China branch of China Telecommunications
Corp. has received official approval from the Ministry of Information Industry
for its "Go-to-Phone" business, the company announced last Friday.
With
this service, mobile phone users can transfer calls from one fixed-lion phone to
another fixed-line phone, allowing them to receive incoming calls without paying
the fee that mobile users are normally charged for incoming calls.
Users
of the service, who must connect a transfer terminal to their fixed-line phones
first, pay only the fixed-line fee, which is much lower than mobile
service.
Guangdong Telecom officials are bullish about the new
Go-to-Phone service, saying it has received satisfactory market response since
the end of last year, when it launched a trail run.
Users of the service,
which is still free of charge, currently number some 150,000 in Guangdong
province.
Free service will continue for three more months until July 20,
officials said, after which it will cost no more than 6 yuan (73 US cents) a
month.
All fixed-line phone and "Little Smart" users in Guangdong are
eligible for the service.
